Wishbones and Funny Bones – Quotes for Thanksgiving

Date

Thanksgiving is a time of family and friends, loud gatherings and multiple deserts.  And eggnog.  Too much eggnog.  Yum.

I may be pre-celebrating the Thanksgiving holiday  Part of the celebration had been spent collecting quotes (both thoughtful and humorous) about the practice of thanksgiving and gratitude, as well as the Day itself.  Here are a few to jump start the festivities. I hope you will join me with this preemptive Thanksgiving celebration!

“Gratitude is the inward feeling of kindness received. Thankfulness is the natural impulse to express that feeling. Thanksgiving is the following of that impulse.” ~ Henry Van Dyke

“Vegetables are a must on a diet. I suggest carrot cake, zucchini bread and pumpkin pie.” ~ Jim Davis

“Gratitude is the fairest blossom which springs from the soul.” ~ Henry Ward Beecher

“An Optimist is a person who starts a new diet on Thanksgiving Day.” ~ Irv Kupcine

“The root of joy is gratefulness.” ~ David Steindl-Rast

“Gratitude is not only the greatest of virtues, but the parent of all the others.” ~ Marcus Tullius Cicero

“What we’re really talking about is a wonderful day set aside on the fourth Thursday of November when no one diets. I mean, why else would they call it Thanksgiving?” ~ Erma Bombeck

“Happiness is itself a kind of gratitude.” ~ Joseph Wood Krutch

“I don’t have to chase extraordinary moments to find happiness – it’s right in front of me if I’m paying attention and practicing gratitude.” ~ Brene Brown

“On Thanksgiving Day all over America, families sit down to dinner at the same moment – halftime.” ~ Anonymous

“Not what we say about our blessings, but how we used them, is the true measure of our Thanksgiving.” ~ W. T. Purkiser

“We make a living by what we get; we make a life by what we give.” ~ Winston Churchill

“As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.” ~ John F. Kennedy

“May your stuffing be tasty
May your turkey plump,
May your potatoes and gravy
Have nary a lump.
May your yams be delicious
And your pies take the prize,
And may your Thanksgiving dinner
Stay off your thighs!” ~ Anonymous
